Short answer: Compare billing companies with one written scope, workflow examples, sample reports, contract terms and references relevant to the practice’s specialty and size.
Start with evidence from your practice
Bring claim volume, provider and location counts, payer mix, denial categories, aging, staffing and current systems. A vendor cannot build a comparable proposal from annual collections alone.
Test the operating detail
Ask each company to walk through a rejected claim, missing documentation, a denial appeal, an underpayment and a patient balance question. Look for ownership, time frames and visibility.
Review the agreement and exit path
Examine term length, renewal, price changes, data access, performance reporting, exclusions, transition support and termination. A strong working relationship still needs a practical exit process.
